Houston to Present Pro-Am Celebrity Golf Event
Tournament to Benefit Local Scholarship
Organization
Administaff, Inc., the nation's leading
Professional Employer Organization (PEO), announced recently
that the company will be the first-ever title sponsor of the
Kenny Houston Hall of Fame Golf Classic, to be held Nov. 9-10,
2001, at the Kingwood Country Club, 1700 Lake Kingwood Trail.
Both organizations formally announced
their partnership at a news conference, where Administaff
representatives presented a check for $25,000 to the Southern
Texas Professional Golfers' Association of America (STPGA)
Scholarship Foundation. Proceeds from the tournament will
also benefit the foundation.
"We are pleased to be the first title
sponsor of such a prestigious and worthwhile community event,"
said Jay E. Mincks, executive vice president of sales and
marketing for Administaff. "We are honored to be associated
with Kenny Houston and all the others involved with this tournament,
and we appreciate their ongoing support of organizations like
the Southern Texas PGA Scholarship Foundation."
Tournament director Rob Lynch said, "This
is the fifth year for the tournament, and we are thrilled
with the addition of Administaff and their commitment to help
us raise money benefiting charities in and around our community.
We look at the move to Kingwood Country Club as the start
of a long-term relationship to promote positive role models
through golf and raise money for our charities, and we are
thrilled about the role the Southern Texas PGA will play in
this year's event."
The Administaff Kenny Houston Hall of
Fame Golf Classic, sanctioned by the STPGA, will feature two
rounds of golf at Kingwood Country Club's Forest Course on
Friday, Nov. 9, and Sat. Nov. 10. On Nov. 9, teams of three
amateurs will partner with a National Football League Hall
of Fame member to compete in a scramble format with prize
money at stake for the Hall of Fame players. A PGA golf professional
will also accompany each team, and will play for a separate
cash purse. The Nov. 10 round will feature teams of three
amateurs with an NFL Hall of Fame member or local sports celebrity
in a scramble format with prizes awarded in various categories.
An awards dinner will also take place
on Friday, Nov. 9, honoring Houston-area people for their
community work and commitment to various charities benefiting
from the tournament.
Among the celebrities scheduled to return
to this year's tournament are NFL Hall of Famers Joe Perry,
Don Maynard, Leroy Kelly, and Mel Renfro. Houston Comets head
coach Van Chancellor, Olympic gold medallist Ollie Matson
and NBA Hall of Famer Hal Greer also will be returning to
the event.
